I am going to JMU in September and obliviously i plan to push to get a team up and running (going to be a hard task as the current JMU players never managed to get a spot in the fresher’s fair). With this is mind, there is potential for 4 separate teams in Merseyside. Wirral, Liverpool Uni, JMU, Liverpool Open. and others could include MUF, Caldy (school on the Wirral) Chester Uni (two Catch Those players now at Chester uni) Basically, I just wanted to point out how much Frisbee is actually being players around our small area, and that its probably about time that we all focused on the priorities and made a success out of our region. First thing is first though, we could do with this website being cleaned up for the new year (it's so much closer than you think!!) I’ve already (briefly) spoke to Sam about adding in a JMU page. What are everyone’s thoughts for the new year? hopefully this post will inspire everyone back in to making Liverpool and the surrounding areas something big on the Ultimate map... it’s not a one man job its going to take a lot of people to create success. I belive now, more than ever we can achive a balance of social and competition in liverpool for those who want to compete, those who want to just play frisbee and those who wouldnt mind combinding the two. possibly we need to have a meeting of all the runs of frisbee in Mersyside and Chester? \'\'Stand by your friends, wrong or right, Can\'t call that justice when it\'s just a stupid excuse to fight.\'\' - Operation Ivy

I have been planning for the student team for some time and I am hoping some of the things I try with them can be rolled out to the open team. 1. Fitness. Mainly Coops piloted the GB training schedule for worlds. I did a portion of it and I believe it is the way forward. The students will be following the schedule and see what happens. 2. Social. I completely agree. The future of the club is to be huge. We should have people for every tournament (fun, competitive etc.) without the same players going to all tournaments. Again... I have some plans with the students and hopefully it can be rolled out to the open team. Essentially... the student team will be training 4 times a week and a social 1-2 times every two weeks. Ultimate will be a way of life... and a community... if we can make it happen. 3. Winter league. Northern winter league is borderline useless. Perhaps Chevy will be more interested this time (b/c worlds are out of the way)... but I feel we have to go somewhere there is more competition... perhaps MWL. 4. Recruitment. This year is a big one for us. I believe if we can be a decent alternative the local lads will stop leaving for Chevy and Leeds etc. However, it also means we must be more organised than ever before. I have been going to Chevy training on occasion... and the biggest difference is the attitude at training. Again something I am very focused to improve. 5. Training. For us to get better we need to train more. Unfortunately this summer it has been impossible to do more. But starting in October there will be 4 training sessions a week. (5 days of fitness commitments). Spreadsheet will be available on facebook. 6. JMU, Chester, Liv = mixed open student nationals! As this is not BUSA... or whatever it is being called now, we can start this ASAP. Also, it is important we all train together to improve as much as possible. There is still a significant talent difference between Vision and the teams above. This needs to change. 7. Tournaments and funds. Over the past couple years we have hosted our fair share of tournaments. It is the students intention to host as many as possible... and hopefully this dramatically improves our cash flow. 8. Organisation. Richie has been a shining light in this category. I believe this is a strong point in some ways... but we still can improve. I think we can communicate more... and this is a verbal not e-mail or website.

I agree that we should have Liverpool players attending tournaments at all levels. I think the point Liam was putting to put foward was that there are enough players in the NorthWest, that we can grow and push the top level whilst still being open and welcoming to more social players (people with limited fitness, skills, potential, time etc). It can be a lifestyle for some, but for others it is just a game, that should be respected and those people should also be welcomed. The extra numbers from social players of the game will help create the larger social pool, and hopefully a significant number of these players will want to push themselves further in the future. A relaxed chilled out Saturday practice would be my vote, without high tensions, attitudes or pressure. Keep the banter up, not take ourselves too seriously and play a game with all levels of players. This would also be great for the top level players. One can't push all the time, physically or emotionally. RE Communication. PLEASE could somebody choose by what method it is best to communicate. There's 2 facebook groups, this website and 2 mailing lists, many of which haven't seen much use recently. Ideally there should be an authoritive open resource offering information for all ultimate going on in Liverpool, and the organisers of different areas should all use this. I drafted an idea about having a "north west" website, with a built in mailing list for those who wanted to be kept up to date with that, but importantly a place where all reps from the different elements of ultimate in the NW could post. Each team can have its own website etc, but there needs to be one definitive location... and we need to make sure it’s not just limited to Liverpool. I can supply the web space for free (piggy back off my website) and i would even be willing to buy a url, such as but my web site skills end at semi-basic dream weaver type of programming...\'\'Stand by your friends, wrong or right, Can\'t call that justice when it\'s just a stupid excuse to fight.\'\' - Operation Ivy

It is important that we co-ordinate all of these groups so that one isn't pulling against the other. We have enthusiastic leaders in all divisions and have the potential to develop a very strong tradition of Ultimate in the North West. Perhaps we should create a committee in the North West to support all the divisions/teams and develop a solid infrastructure so the Ultimate can flourish in this region at all levels. Communication is key, the website here is a fantastic resource and could perhaps be used as a first port of call for NW Ultimate. The main problem is that the website is fighting against the likes of Facebook and Bebo where people like to interact and upload Photos etc.

I'm finally about to play my first ultimate since leaving (Saigon Ultimate) and decided to check out the site. I reckon you (Sam) could change the site so it has space for every team in Merseyside. It's so good to have the iloveultimate address because it can apply to everyone. Then you can end up with a page for Boogie, one for Vision, etc. Just a thought. It sounds like everything is going really well, so keep it up and make sure there's space for me when I get back. "Beer makes you strong - until it makes you wonder around naked!"
